Steps to Begin a New Van Pool
Call potential people and/or work with RideLink to find people traveling to a common destination or area. Post "VanPool Forming" notices at your work site via bulletin boards, e-mail, or company newsletter. Other places to post: local supermarkets, library, park and ride sites, newspaper ads, etc.
Set a time to meet with the RideLink office to go over the policies handbook and give information for insurance and contacts.
Once you have your pool together, your group decides on a route, pick-up points and a schedule. Vanpooling can be flexible so work together to schedule everyone's needs.
A driver and a backup driver are selected. The driver will receive half fare. The driver will house the vehicle at his/her residence.
To be a vanpool driver, you need:
You will also need a bookkeeper to collect the fares, record daily mileage and keep a routine maintenance log.
